Transcript

This page provides information about the courses I took in my Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in Technology and Learning at Michigan State University. Below, you will find a description of each course, the instructors, the year, and the semester.

ED 800 Educational Inquiry

Instructors: Dr. Steven Weiland - Dr. Nathan Clason

This course allows learners to expand their knowledge and inquiry about education beliefs, different teaching practices, and the roles of information and communication technologies. Being the first class I took in the program, it helped me reflect deeper on educational theories and principles we could apply in our teaching practice. Through this course, I stretched my thinking by exploring other perspectives, and I learned from different points of view that are essential if we want to implement better approaches in our classroom.

CEP 820 Teaching Students Online

Instructors: Dr. Anne Heintz and Dr. Elizabeth Boltz

This course focuses on incorporating technology into the classroom by implementing digital tools, accessibility, and Universal Design for Learning. During this course, we analyzed and compared previous Online Course Module (OCM) and various online platforms to reflect on the uses of technology in education. We explored course management systems, online instruction, and design thinking through reading materials, videos and the design of your own Online Course Module. This course helped me to think about strategies to make more effective lesson plan and find more ways to integrate technology and interact with learners online.

CEP 817 Learning Technology Through Design

Instructors: Dr. William Bork and Dr. Anne Heintz

This course provides a variety of strategies to understand the design process by empathizing, defining, ideating, prototyping, testing, and connecting our practices. One of the strengths of this course is that the assignments provide a valuable opportunity to grow in the workplace and that personal experiences count as part of the learning process. This course taught me to see the big picture when solving problems, think about other perspectives, and stay focused on what's possible to accomplish.

FLT 807 Method of Foreign Language Teaching

Instructor: Dr. Frederick Poole

In this course, I learned more about different methods of teaching foreign languages and how to implement them in the classroom. As a Spanish teacher, this course offered great opportunities to grow in the educational field. We had the chance to create and analyze ways to improve the teaching and learning experience through 3 forms of activity design: presentational, interpretative, and interpersonal. In this course, I learned about other strategies and techniques I could use to enrich my lessons and provide a more effective classroom experience.

CEP 813 Electronic Assessment for Teaching and Learning

Instructor: Dr. Chris Sloan

During this course, I analyzed multiple ways to assess students and bring innovation into my teaching practice by using technology, incorporating digital tools, making lessons accessible to all learners, and promoting equity in the classroom. I learned about assessment foundations, how to create formative and summative assessments in digital contexts, and a better understanding of learning through technology. Applying these ideas about assessment is crucial for the 21st-century classroom.

EAD 878 Education in the Digital Age

Instructor: Dr. Steven Weiland

This course offers opportunities to reflect on the impact of new technologies in teaching and learning and how we can look at the gains and losses of our society with a critical eye focusing on the following topics: history and demography, new literacies, online teaching and learning, the digital infrastructure and the prospects of educational institutions. During this course, I had the opportunity to expand my thinking and share my ideas through different writing assignments.

TE 825 Diverse Learners and Learning Subject Matter

Instructor: Dr. Scott Farver

The purpose of this course was to reflect on ways to connect with learners and better understand approaches that positively impact the classroom culture. During this course, I learned how to focus on creating deep conversations about race, inclusion, and social justice to practice critical thinking, build confidence, and improve social interactions. In addition, I implemented specific strategies to improve my teaching practice through ABAR (antibias and antiracism) work and how to create classrooms that promote more opportunities for diverse learners.

CEP 840 Policies, Practices, and Perspectives in Special Education

Instructor: Courtney Maher

This course provided different teaching strategies and approaches to improve the classroom environment when working with students with ADHD, visual impairments, hearing impairments, emotional and behavioral disorders, intellectual disabilities, speech or language impairments. During the course, I analyze the implications of providing an inclusive classroom in order to create a positive and safe learning environment for all learners.

CEP 811 Adapting Innovative Technologies to Education

Instructor: Colin Gallagher

This course focuses on implementing methods for educational problems and developing interactive activities in traditional, online teaching, or corporate settings. During this course, I created an Innovative Learning plan for high school students, I reflected on my experiences as a learner by creating videos, blog posts, and other forms of communication that enhanced my teaching experience and helped me adapt new ideas utilizing different digital tools.

ED 870 - Capstone Seminar

Instructor: Dr. Matthew Koehler

In this course, I was able to review and reflect on my past experiences during my master's in education program and what I took away from each class by creating a portfolio to display my work, think about my career, and plan my next goals for the future. Every week, I developed new content for the website, provided and received feedback from my peers and instructor, posted a FlipGrid video to share my work, and had the opportunity to learn more about web and graphic design.
